Cellular connectivity is an excellent fit for digital signage. That hasn’t always been the case, however, todays cellular networks are faster and more reliable. Cellular enables a truly plug and play solution for digital signage. From a security perspective, cellular connections offer some advantages over LAN and Wi-Fi. For example, cellular modems completely isolate digital signage media players from a corporate network so IT staff don’t have to worry about setting up security policies or firewall settings. Cellular also enhances the already robust SSL and encryption provided by MediaTile by encrypting traffic with military grade standards. This almost completely eliminates “man in the middle” attacks making cellular an excellent choice for state and government contracts, as well as the medical industry for situations like HIPAA compliance.

Once content is downloaded, it is cached locally on the media player for playback and does not need to be downloaded again.

MediaTile has been developed with cellular connectivity in mind since it’s inception. Content being downloaded to media players can be very large. MediaTile has highly optimized its download process to account for the inconsistent speeds and signal loss common with cellular lines to help prevent cellular overage charges. And once content is downloaded, it is cached locally on the media player for playback and does not need to be downloaded again. Bandwidth monitoring is also available so that users can review data usage for individual media players and our own support team is highly experienced supporting cellular networks.
